We’ve known for a long time that the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) is an organization without a clue, who’s missing the boat on the evolution of the industry into an electronic medium. But their recent lawsuit against a man for ripping his legally purchased CD’s into MP3’s on his computer puts the RIAA into the dumbass hall of fame. RIAA slimeball laywer Ira Schwartz, in a brief filed earlier this month, argued that MP3 files made on a computer from legally bought CDs are “unauthorized copies” of copyrighted recordings.

What’s next? Is the RIAA going to go after everyone who’s ever copied their vinyl LP’s onto cassette tape so they could play them in a walkman or in their car?

I don’t mean to pick on the poor girl, but she did provide the inspiration for this site. You’ve all seen the video. You’ve laughed, you’ve cried, you’ve wondered where our educational system has gone wrong. Just in case you missed it, here’s the video:

Now, Miss Upton was given a chance to defend herself on the TODAY Show with Matt Lauer. She said she was overwhelmed at being on TV, didn’t really hear the question, and just totally froze. It’s understandable. Miss Upton is, in fact, an honor student. So, while most of the posts on this site in the days and weeks to come will highlight the truly stupid and moronic, the inspiration for this site is not actually stupid, and we’re just making fun of the moment she froze on national television.
